World Pole Sports Championships 2012

On Friday 20th July I had the pleasure of helping Jason Parlour with photos on the final day of the World Pole Sports Championships. There was a big difference between this competition and all other pole competitions, as this was the first one to be done with Olympic style rules, for example, the music was not to have lyrics in.

I was in time to see the Men’s Finals, with the 5 finalists who qualified on the 19th July (out of 9). Followed by the Woman’s Finals, with the 10 finalists (out of 29).

All the dancers were true athletes, all of them looking like they had come from a gymnastic background. I think the judges had their work cut out for them, all of them were of the same phenomenal standard, no one dancer on the Friday really stood out, which is strange for a pole comp, a lot of the time you can see a clear winner, or top few, but not in this case.
Here are the results, along with videos of the winners:

Please note that with all Purity classes they are lessons rather than pole jams, which means you must follow the teachers instruction rather than swapping moves with each other. We believe this is the safest way to run classes, especially as all the teachers have been trained on how to teach moves safely and can work out if you are ready for certain moves. If you see someone doing a new move and would like to give it a go then by all means ask your teacher, I’m sure they will be happy to teach it to you, or give you advice on what moves will get you ready for it.

Purity Christmas Showcase 2010

On Sunday 5th December 2010 I put on the Purity Christmas Showcase at Hotel de Vie in Farnham. This was an idea given to me by one of the Reading students, Kerri, originally she suggested it was in the studio but I ran away with the idea and made it bigger!! Fortunately she still performed!

I started the night by introducing Jessabelle Polesista, he routine was to Frank Sinatra – ‘Let It Snow’ very fun and consisted of lots of sparkly snow being thrown everywhere, a perfect start to the evening. Once she had got changed she came back on to compare the rest of the evening.

Jess done a fantastic job throughout the night at keeping the guests entertained with her well planned out notes and silly Christmas jokes.

There were 3 student performances, all of them performing for the first time, first up was Kelly dancing to Track One by Swedish House Mafia, even though she was very nervous and the last couple of practice sessions that week hadn’t gone to plan, she done a brilliant job and put in every move that she wanted to.

Next up was a doubles Purity Routine Workshop by Kate and Kerri. This was a routine they learnt in class with me earlier in the year to Bring Me To Life by Evanescence. They looked liked they thoroughly enjoyed themselves during their performance.

3rd on was Ruth dancing to Telephone by Lady Gaga and Beyonce. This was her own routine which she started a few months ago but never got the chance to perform it. Ruth had some funky little steps in her routine, making it fun to watch. She was buzzing once she finished.

After the 20 minute interval the instructors (including myself) got ready to go on.

Suze, our teacher from Wraysbury and Reading went on first. Inspired by the strength moves she gave an awesome performance of moves I am only dreaming about doing. The Jacknife drop springs to mind! it was nice to see she started off with a little Christmas tune before breaking into a rock version of ‘Wicked Game’.

Next up was me, Jolene Redtrip, it seemed a bit unusual for me not to do a Christmas number but I was really into ‘Let you Go’ by Chase and Status. My performance was quite bouncy and was really fun. This was the first routine I have managed to put in the Handspring, partly why I did it first!

Lisa Williams, who used to teach for us in Twickenham was on after me, she seems to have gotten ever so strong since the last time I saw her rock the pole which was about a year ago. her routine had many strong moves and lots of funky dance moves. She was dancing to Video Phone by Lady Gaga and Boyonce.

To end the night on a fun note Emma Park Watt and Beth Hadcroft we all set to do their upbeat performance to House of Pain – ‘Jump Around’, it was off to a great start and everyone was enjoying the tongue in cheek performance, unfortunately about a minute before the end the music cut out and the amp had over heated! Like true stars they carried on anyway and got a massive cheer at the end!!

The night was a high success and there seems to be a growing list of performers wanting to have a go at the next Purity showcase, which is looking like it will be Easter time.

Thanks to everyone involved, Jason for doing the photos, Jess for being our fabulous compare, Claire for keeping the poles clean and warm, Hotel de Vie for being such a wicked little venue, and of course all the amazing performers and our lovely guests!

Looking forward to the next one already, Merry Christmas Everyone!!

Photo’s will follow soon, in the mean time here is the video of my performance:

New Video from mine and Lisa’s Pole Jam

I met up with Lisa Williams on Monday 23rd August for a jam and we practiced lots of fun moves and made a video which you can see by clicking here.

In case you can’t remember Lisa taught for Purity in Twickenham for about 18 months.

On Friday 27th August we had a mini jam to celebrate Purity’s 4th Birthday, which also included 2 years at the Purity Studio in Reading. More photos and videos to follow shortly.

I will be moving house over the next couple of weeks so I won’t be around much. Jason and I are taking over a new business – Hotel de Vie in Farnham, and it’s finally moving in time!

I totally forgot that I had taken some video footage of the Purity Photo shoot on Sunday 11th April, I have now put it together into a little video. For those of you thinking of having photos done at the next Purity Photo shoot then this is a good idea of what you can expect on the day.

Apart from filming I was also helping to give ideas for pole moves that make great photos.

Also Jason is available for photo shoots at the Purity Studio if you decide to have a whole session to yourself.

By the way, everyone in this video were happy for me to film them, please note that if you come to a photo shoot and don’t want this then it’s not a problem.

Fantastic Weekend!

I have been out and enjoying the lovely hot weather this weekend, yesterday I went to Camden with Jason and had my Cyberdog Audition at 12.30pm. I was there ready to dance in time to some funky house (the hard music doesn’t kick in until later in the day), I went on the pole for 20 minutes, after about 10 minutes of high energy bouncing I was covered in sweat making it very difficult to pole. I was extremely hot after my 20 minutes but was very pleased to find out that I had passed!!!

I will have my first shift on Saturday 29th May 1pm-6pm!! I’m going to dig out all my old skool Cyber gear ready.

After my audition we went to Covent Garden to see a Chinese Pole act. This guy was recommended to us from someone else in Equity. We turned up just in time to see Ruben (think that’s his name) start his performance, he was very comical during his show which made him extra interesting to watch. His moves were incredible, but they all involved him risking his life for his art. If you are in Covent Garden at weekends then do try to go and see him, look out on Jason’s blog as he got some photos of him.

Just when I thought the weekend couldn’t get any better, I find out that a friend of a friend is looking for help with their horse, Zela. So now I have a new horse to look after a couple of days a week!

Pole Jam / Spin City Showcase

My weekend was packed full of pole events, first of all on Saturday we had the belated Christmas Pole jam for Students at the Purity Studio. This was cancelled before Christmas due to the snow. There were 3 of the Purity teachers there, myself, Beth and Suze, we all gave out tuition which meant most students got a lot out of the jam.

Suze set herself a challenge to try and do as many moves as she could in 90 seconds without touching the floor. but she wasn’t allowed to do the same move twice! (Well apart from climbing and Inverting) I’m sure she will upload her video to her new blog once it is up and running.

I did a trial run of my performance ready for Sunday, here is the video:

Practice Run

On Sunday Jason and I ventured to Bristol ready for the Spin City Spring Showcase event which was being held at the Panache night club. They had hired out the venue and placed 2 Xpoles on the brightly lit dance floor (one 50mm on Static and one 45mm on Spin mode). Kate Johnstone opened the show with a wicked trick infused routine, my god that girl is strong! After that one by one other performers both amateur and professional came on and did their performance. There was a mixture of Pole Dance and Burlesque. Emma Mitchell did her hilarious old lady burlesque/pole act, I definitely think this was the most memorable performance from the night.

I was the last pole act to go on, I used both Spinny and Static pole and danced to Hysteria by Muse. I felt confident with the routine especially having practiced it at the Jam the day before. There will be some photos to follow from the night as Jason was there as the official photographer, for now you can see my video:
